About Us
Karla started riding ponies at the age of 8. She was active in 4-H and Pony Club throughout her school years. While in college, she studied Business, Nursing and Real Estate. In 1999, she married David Cherry. They have 2 beautiful children, Katelynn and Joshua.
In 2000, they purchased their farm in Trappe and named it Whispering Winds Farm, LLC. Karla started full care horse boarding for various clients. Over time as the children grew, so did the farm. Many of the children's friends wanted to learn how to ride a pony! Now we are an established farm not only for horse boarding but also specializing in horse fun for kids through 4-H, Girl Scout badge programs, summer horse camps and of course, riding lessons!
In 2007 we started our first week long Summer Horse Camp.
We taught the children riding skills in the morning and in the afternoon participated in horse related activites, games and crafts.
In 2008 the farm joined with the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council to offer an opportunity to local Girl Scouts to earn their Horse Fan, Horse Sense and Horseback Riding badges. We also started offering an opportunity to other groups such as the "Moms and Me" to bring their youngsters out to pet not just the ponies but also the guinea pig, rabbit, goat, dog and cats!
